From Opportunities The Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) is currently accepting film and script submissions for its 9th annual event. HBFF 2008 will be held June 3-8, 2008 in Beverly Hills, California. The festival will feature narrative and documentary features, short and student films, music videos and animation in its competitive program, as well as a separate Storyteller Competition for screenwriters.
The festival will be accepting submissions through February 15, 2008. Films must have been completed since September 2006 and one of the film’s creative principles (director, writer or producer) must be Black or of African heritage. Following are important HBFF dates to mark on your calendars: Deadlines:
Early Bird: January 15, 2008 Final: February 15, 2008 WAB Extended: February 22, 2008 Fees: Early Bird: $45 Final: $55 WAB Final: $60 Notification to Filmmakers Finalists: March 31, 2008 Notification to Storyteller Finalists: May 1, 2008 HBFF screens more than 125 films, holds nearly two dozen panels and workshops featuring 100+ speakers, and hosts nightly parties and networking receptions. The festival aims to enhance the careers of emerging and established Black North American filmmakers through a public exhibition and competition program, and bring independent works by Black filmmakers to Southern California area audiences, thereby fostering a greater appreciation for Black filmmaking.
