Nickelodeon Picks Up Mel B's Black "Hannah Montana" Series

Spice Girls star Melanie Brown (aka Mel B) has written a new sitcom which she describes as the "black version" of popular tween TV series "Hannah Montana." Brown is set to star in the new series, which has been picked up by Nickelodeon.



T.I. Brings Legal Woes to MTV Reality Series

Rapper T.I., "The King of the South," is turning his legal woes into an MTV reality that will follow him as he performs his 1,000 hours of community service ahead of a one-year prison sentence for illegal possession of firearms. MTV has ordered eight episodes of the series.




TV One to Add HD Channel; Michelle Rice Upped to EVP, Affiliate Sales & Marketing

TV One will add a high-def channel in the 4th quarter of this year.  While they haven't signed any carriage deals, the new channel will feature a simulcast of the network's programming lineup. In related network news, Michelle Rice has been named executive vice president of affiliate sales and marketing of TV One.



Black Television News Channel Announces Carriage Agreement with Comcast

The soon-to-be-launched Black Television News Channel (BTNC), the nation's only African-American news network, has announced a multi-year carriage agreement with Comcast.  Under the agreement, BTNC expects that it will be added to Comcast systems in the following key African American markets: Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and Baltimore.
