The Warner Bros. Television Group and
Time Inc.'s Essence Communications Inc. are teaming up on a series of
initiatives to expand the Essence brand across a number of
platforms, including the Internet and television. One of the first
projects to come from the new relationship is the late summer re-launch
of an expansive new web destination at Essence.com, created in
collaboration with WBTVG's Telepictures Productions, which aims to be
the ultimate online destination for African-American women.

Island Def Jam Music Group (IDJ) and Procter
& Gamble's TAG brand have announced the formation of a new hip-hop record
label, TAG Records. The new label will be led by hip-hop mogul Jermaine
Dupri, who will act as president of the New York-based venture. As
president, Dupri will set the creative vision for the label and play an
integral part in identifying and developing its musical talent.

The Wayans brothers, who had been in talks with the city of Oakland to
build 'Destination Oakland,' a movie studio and shopping center, and
business park on the old Oakland Army Base, bowed
out of the deal on Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Tribeca Film Festival along
with the Tribeca Film Institute have announced the selected projects
for Tribeca All Access (TAA), a program designed to help foster
relationships between film industry executives and filmmakers from
traditionally underrepresented communities. Celebrating its 5th year,
Tribeca All Access will present 37 new projects, its largest showing
ever, at the six-day event taking place April 21 – 26 during this
year’s Tribeca Film Festival, held from April 23 – May 4.
ESPN Films Established; CAA Tapped to Guide Expansion into Sports-Themed Theatricals

ESPN has formed a new unit, ESPN Films, to present scripted and documentary
film projects for television and theatrical release. The announcement also marks a new
collaboration with The Walt Disney Studios on scripted sports films.
The new unit will be part of the ESPN Content Development group. ESPN
has retained Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to represent the new unit and explore
new creative and commercial opportunities that complement the company’s
feature film initiative.
