Nationwide Talent Search for “Hairspray” Starring John Travolta and Queen Latifah

The New Line Cinema “Hairspray” is holding a national casting search for the upcoming feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Hairspray," starring John Travolta and Queen Latifah.  Here’s what they’re looking for....

Character Descriptions

TRACY TURNBLAD: (Starring Role) Female, Caucasian, age 16 - 21 to play 16; Overweight high-school girl, with a pretty face, infectious grin, and indomitable spirit. Must be a “triple-threat” talent: singer/dancer/actress with a powerful, Broadway-caliber singing voice.

SEAWEED: Male, African-American, age 16 - 21 to play 16. Charming, handsome, excellent dancer and singer. Dynamic.

LITTLE INEZ: Female, African-American, age 10 - 13. Seaweed’s younger sister. Smart, strong, and the kind of girl who stands up for herself. She is one of the best dancers and singers around…and she knows it.

No prior film experience necessary! But you must have strong singing, dancing and acting skills.

Here’s what you need to prepare:

For TRACY: Be prepared to sing 8 bars of ‘Good Morning Baltimore’ from the Broadway production of “HAIRSPRAY”, which is downloadable at http://www.hairspraymovie.com, or sing a similar upbeat Broadway show tune. You will be asked to sing a capella (no piano accompaniment).

For SEAWEED: Be prepared to sing 8 bars of either ‘Run and Tell That’ from the Broadway production of “HAIRSPRAY”, which is downloadable at http://www.hairspraymovie.com, or sing a similar upbeat 60’s Motown song. You will be asked to sing a capella (no piano accompaniment).

For LITTLE INEZ: Be prepared to sing 8 bars of either ‘Run and Tell That’ from the Broadway production of “HAIRSPRAY”, which is downloadable at http://www.hairspraymovie.com, or sing a similar upbeat 60’s Motown song. You will be asked to sing a capella (no piano accompaniment).

CALLBACKS WILL BE HELD THE DAY AFTER EACH OPEN CALL.

If you are called back, please bring piano sheet music for the song you have selected. If you are unable to attend any of these Open Calls, New Line still wants to hear from you … send a recent picture and resume along with the Audition Application, which is downloadable at http://www.hairspraymovie.com.
