On Monday night, October 3rd, high above downtown Los Angeles at the Windows Restaurant, a virtual who's who of celebrities and executives from music, film, television and radio joined with Radio One Inc. Founder Catherine L. Hughes as she celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the founding of her broadcasting empire.
The "Who's Who" in the house included: Clarence Avant, Ananda Lewis, Mekhi Phifer, David Talbert, Omarosa, Jasmine Guy, Clifton Powell, John Salley, Smokey Robinson, Malik Yoba, James Ingram, George Daniels, Howard Hewitt, Bishop and Mrs. Charles E. Blake of West Angeles Church of God in Christ, Al B. Sure!, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Victoria Rowell, Joe Torry, Judge Greg Mathis, May May Ali, California Assemblyman Mark Ridley Thomas, Jim Brown, Wayman Tisdale, Judge Mablean Ephriam, Richard Roundtree, Dawn Lewis and many others.
"I am so grateful to Los Angeles for the warm reception and diverse representation of the community that attended our anniversary celebration. We had athletes, entertainers, actors, actresses, broadcasters, gang members, executives and hurricane Katrina evacuees. I am proud of the fact that during the party there were no class distinctions, no elitism ... people were cordial, loving, and warm. It was truly a wonderful atmosphere of positive interaction. On that night we were all brothers and sisters. On behalf of the Radio One family I want to thank each and every one of the people who came out to help us celebrate the year long commemoration of Radio One's 25th Anniversary," says Cathy Hughes.
Although Radio One's year long celebration kicked off in Los Angeles with the gala as well as a host of on-air promotions and special events, nationally as well as in its local radio markets, the year long celebration will reach its climax with a star studded gala celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC during August 2006, bringing the final celebration back to where it all began. This historic musical event will feature live performances and appearances by some of today's biggest stars. The event will be telecast later on TV One, the lifestyle and entertainment television network for African-American adults that Radio One launched with Comcast Corporation last year.
