Entertainment Attorney Darrell Thompson on "Inside Urban Hollywood," Monday, July 13, 2009

Entertainment attorney Darrell Thompson will appear on the July 13th
edition of "Inside Urban Hollywood" with host Tanya Kersey and co-host
Tiffini Bowers to talk about negotiating talent and producer deals in
music and film. Darrell is a highly regarded transactional
entertainment attorney.

Darrell started his own firm right out of law
school and was fortunate to gain clients such as Raphael Saadiq from
Tony, Tone, Toni, Montell Jordan, D'Angelo and Teddy Riley. He took a
brief hiatus from private practice in the mid-90's to work in the
business affairs department at Motown Records, where he helped pioneer
the company's transition to digital media. During his tenure at Motown,
he negotiated deals for headliners including Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder,
Boyz II Men, and Queen Latifah.
After returning to private
practice Darrell affiliated himself with two entertainment industry
powerhouse law firms, first, Davis, Shapiro, Lewitt, et. al. and
second, Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, LLP, where he represented many
well-known platinum artists, industry executives, and business
enterprises.
His cliental throughout the years have included
the Black Eye Peas, Tyrese, En Vouge, The Isley Brothers, Phil Collins’
publishing company and Jay Z to name a few. He producer clients have
recorded records appearing on albums by Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson,
Usher, Kirk Franklin, Beyonce, and Christina Aguilar just to name a
few. Darrell also has an impressive roster of clients in Gospel music
including the legendary Clark Sisters, winners of three (3) Grammys in
2008, Keirra "KiKi" Sheard, Virtue, and Andrae Crouch.
On the
motion picture side, Darrell has negotiated talent deals in the motion
pictures "Hustle and Flow" and "Idlewylld." He has represented talent
on over 20 motion picture soundtracks beginning in the early 1990's
with the film "Juice" starring a young Tupac Shakur and including the
recent films "This Christmas" and "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."
Most
recently Darrell was an executive producer on his first motion
picture. The film is an independent urban faith based feature entitled
"Jada" starring Clifton Powell and Rockmond Dunbar.
