On Thursday, July 2, TV One will continue its tribute to the late "King of Pop" Michael Jackson with a night of special programming. TV One will reprise the two-hour "Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration" with an encore airing at 8 and 11 PM (all times ET). Until its June 26 broadcast on TV One, this star-studded salute to the legendary superstar produced by David Gest hadn't been broadcast in nearly a decade.
This night of TV One programming will air as follows:
- Beginning at 7 PM - TV One airs the TV Guide special Michael Jackson: The Life and Times of The King Of Pop, an hour-long documentary celebrating the prolific life of Michael Jackson; from his start in Gary, Indiana with the Jackson 5 to his untimely death on June 25, 2009.
- 8 PM - TV One airs Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration, an all-star concert salute to the "King of Pop," produced by David Gest, which celebrated his 30 years as a solo performer. In its debut airing in 2001, the special gained the distinction of being the highest-rated musical special in television history. Taped at New York's Madison Square Garden on Sept. 7 and 10, 2001, this special was Michael Jackson's first live U.S. performance in more than a decade and the first reunion with his brothers in 17 years. The roster of performers and guests include Destiny's Child, Whitney Houston, Usher, 'N Sync, 98 Degrees, James Ingram, Gloria Estefan, Mya, Chris Tucker, Samuel L. Jackson, Liza Minnelli and a host of others. TV One obtained the rights to the special from World Events LLC, a company owned by David Gest and Michael Jackson. The show is being distributed by Alfred Haber Distribution.
- 10 PM - TV one will re-air the final episode in the second season of its acclaimed Unsung series, which profiles the lives or careers of successful artists or groups whose talents have been under recognized. This special profiles Florence Ballard -- co-founder and shared lead singer of the Supremes, who was replaced as lead singer by Diana Ross, and Berry Gordy dismissed her from the group in 1967. It took years before she recovered emotionally, and she spent much of her last years in poverty, dying a tragic death from a coronary thrombosis at age 32.
- 11 PM - TV One re-airs Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration
- 1 AM - TV One airs an original special Remembering the Time: An MJ Video Tribute which is a special that showcases Michael Jackson's extravagant music videos, including the groundbreaking video "Thriller" and the Egyptian themed "Remember the Time".
- 2 AM - TV One airs an episode of its original entertainment magazine series TV One Access featuring a segment on the finances and health of Michael Jackson.
