Veteran Actor Robert DoQui Dead at 74

Veteran stage, film and television actor Robert DoQui died peacefully
in his sleep February 9th, 2008 at his home in Los Angeles . He was 74
years old. Born in 1934 in Stillwater , Oklahoma . DoQui attended
Langston University on a music scholarship and was a member of the
popular singing group the Langstonaires. Prior to his successful career
in show business, DoQui served his country, as an Airman, for 4 years
in the United States Air Force. He served as a Screen Actors Guild
Board Member for ten years.
DoQui's entertainment career spans over 50 years in film, television,
and theater. 33 feature film credits include three films for acclaimed
director Robert Altman, NASHVILLE , BUFFALO BILL & THE INDIANS and
SHORT CUTS which earned DoQui a Golden Globe Award and the Venice Film
Festival's Volpi Cup Award for Best Ensemble Cast. The blaxploitation
classic COFFY, the Academy Award® winning FORTUNE COOKIE, and playing
Sgt. Warren Reed in all three ROBOCOP features helped to make DoQui a
familiar face to audiences worldwide. On the small screen, DoQui
starred in 2 epic mini-series, the EMMY® award winning HOW THE WEST WAS
WON directed by the McEveety brothers and the award winning CENTENNIAL.
He also starred in 13 television movies and played diverse characters
with equal ease on dramas and comedies in over 75 hours of episodic
television with guest appearances ranging from NYPD BLUE to HAPPY DAYS.
His distinctive voice brought the character Pablo Robertson to life on
the animated series HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS. In addition to his prolific
acting credits, DoQui served for ten years on the Board of Directors of
the Screen Actors Guild advocating for increased participation of women
and minority groups in the media.
He was a spiritual man who served the community as a church elder and
dedicated his life and time helping others. He is survived by his 96
year old mother, 4 sons, a daughter, 10 grandchildren and his life
partner Mittie Lawrence who are dedicated to continuing his legacy.
DoQui spent much of his last days expressing himself in his literary
works of prayers, short stories and screenplays. One of his primary
wishes was to provide these prayers and writings to his loved ones and
others so they could find inspiration and comfort in his writings. His

Viewing at the Inglewood Mortuary, 1206 Centinela Avenue, Inglewood ,
CA 90302 on Sunday, February 17, 2008 between the hours of 10:00 AM and
2:00 PM. Services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Tuesday, February 19,
2008 at the Crystal Cathedral, 12141 Lewis Street, Garden Grove, CA
92840 followed by internment at Ingelwood Park Cemetary 720 East
Florence Avenue, Inglewood, CA 90301.
