Black Talent News was there last night at L.A.'s Ahmanson Theatre for the opening night performance of the 11-time Tony-award nominated musical, "The Color Purple."  Quincy Jones, one of the musical's producers was on hand as was Brenda Russell, one of the composers of the Grammy®-nominated score.

Based on the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, it is the unforgettable and inspiring story of a woman named Celie, who finds her unique voice in the world. The music chronicles the 40-year journey of Celie, from youthful abuse victim to mature survivor, and the two women, Shug and Sofia, who impact her life.  Jeannette Bayardelle (Celie), former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams (Shug Avery) and Felicia P. Fields (Sofia) wowed the audience.

The lavish after-party was held in the Ballroom of the Lady of Our Angels Cathedral.
