Opera singer N’Kenge will join conductor Jack Everly and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for "Too Darn Hot! A Tribute to Cole Porter." Cole Porter’s musical wit and playful lyrics are captured in a tribute to this timeless composer, featuring favorites like “It’s Too Darn Hot,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “Anything Goes,” with N’Kenge headlining a stellar array of vocalists and the BSO SuperPops. “Working with Maestro Everly has been an amazing experience. I am excited to return to such a fantastic Orchestra and having family in Maryland is also a perk!” said N’Kenge. This marks N’Kenge’s return to BSO. She was previously featured in The Beat Goes On…Baby Boomers concert under the baton of Principal Pops Conductor Jack Everly. “N'Kenge is a truly gifted singer and performer. Her range and depth of talent allows her to shine with any genre of music,” said Jack Everly, Conductor. “We are very proud that she is returning to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for the Cole Porter program. The audience will be in for a treat when N’Kenge takes the stage.” N’Kenge, a multifaceted upcoming young star, is noted both for her vocal range, versatility and stage presence. She is a graduate of the High School of Performing Arts, Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School. She is a two-time winner of the New York Artists Vocal Competition in 2006 and 2007, winner of the ASCAP Lieber & Stoller Award, Lena Horne Vocal Competition and Leontyne Price Vocal Competition. Washington D.C. is a special place for N’Kenge. She has performed for numerous dignitaries at prestigious venues including for President Bill Clinton at the White House, Secretary General Kofi Annan at the United Nations Visionary Awards and Secretary of State Colin Powell when he was honored by the George C. Marshall Foundation. N’Kenge has performed at the Kennedy Center and was a featured soloist in a live worldwide broadcast on National Public Radio (NPR) from the Library of Congress celebrating the centennial of Aaron Copland. 2006 was a busy year for N’Kenge. She starred in "The Genius of Ray Charles" at the Theater Royal Haymarket in London’s West End, made her Off-Broadway debut in "Broadway Diva Christmas" alongside with actresses such as Ellen Greene, Christine Pedi and Kathy Brier, sang the leading role in Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical "Aida," and made her debut with the Little Orchestra Society in "Naughty Marietta" at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. She was also nominated by the prestigious Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical for her performance of “3 Mo’ Divas” at Arena Stage, Washington, DC.
